About this place
Set just off the main road in Takinogawa, Lupin is an inviting traditional kissaten that comes into its own when you want a substantial lunch on a weekday. Its operating hours are brief, running only on weekdays from 11:00 to 14:00, but the dining room quickly fills with nearby workers and neighborhood regulars once midday arrives.
Many visitors come specifically for the daily lunch special, served in unpretentious teishoku set fashion. Depending on the day, that might mean karaage fried chicken with rice, miso soup, and dessert, or a hearty plate of curry accompanied by a bowl of miso soup loaded with ingredients. Classic Western-style kissaten fare is equally prominent: orders of ketchup-glazed Neapolitan, meat sauce spaghetti, omurice, or prawn pilaf all include a cup of hot coffee or tea to round out the meal.
The coffee served after lunch carries a comforting, nostalgic bitterness that leaves a pleasant, grounding finish. Seating includes both counter stools and tables, making it an easy place to drop by on your own for a quiet midday bite. Payment is cash only, so keep some bills and coins on hand before stopping in.
